DOUBLE HEIGHT HOUSE

 

Client: Aparna and Shrikant. Project details: Site dimensions - 60' x 120', BUA - 4500 sft, 

 

This house is designed for a family of four on half of a 60' x 120' site in Hennur, Bangalore. The remaining half of the site is a fruit orchard that has been lovingly tended to by the clients. The owners wanted a 2 storey, 4-bedroom house with a large double height living area and a view of the garden from most of the rooms.

Having lived in apartments they were keen to have big rooms, spacious open verandahs and landscaped terraces that they can step into. They stressed on the need for low maintenance, simple, long lasting, elegant home as they are presently struggling to maintain their huge penthouse apartment. Since their daughter is near marriageable age, we proposed a modular plan for the house so that it can be configured in the future as two separate houses with the upper floor given out for rent.

While the living room, master bedroom, mother's bedroom, family media room face the mini farm, the rooms on the other side, namely the daughters bedroom, gym overlook into private landscaped terraces. A double height Sadarahalli granite clad wall is the focus of this home and a staircase twines around this wall and can be seen from all the public spaces of this house.
