HOUSE ON A HILL

Client: Dr Cyril and Dr Bretta. Project details: Site dimensions - 4 acres, BUA - 6,400 sft, 

This four acre farmland in Thally, Tamil Nadu is the site of a holiday home for an expatriate dentist couple who are passionate about farming. To take advantage of 360 degree views of the surrounding sheep pastures and rolling hills, we positioned the house on top of a rocky hillock. In spite of challenging soil conditions and unstable rock formation, we were able to to anchor the house firmly on top of the rock using innovative structural techniques.

The steep gradient of the hill was exploited to create a cooler, lower level which can be used as a store room for the excess agricultural produce and preserves. This level also includes  a barbecue area adjoining a rockery. The wide verandah all around the house ensures that one never misses a view of the beautiful countryside from any position.
